How
to choose the right size Bird Screen for your windows.
Examples
Width
The Bird Screen should cover
most of the glass area of your window. (Experience has shown that a
few inches on either side, top, or bottom of exposed glass does not present
a danger to birds.) It can be slightly smaller in width than the glass
area or slightly wider. If using the suction-cup brackets on a window
that opens by swinging outward, the Bird Screen should by narrower than
the window frame.
24" Bird Screens can fit windows as narrow as 20".
For larger windows, multiple
Bird Screens can be hung side-by-side (The maximum width of one Bird Screen
is 3 feet).
Length
New Standard Model
If ordering the new model, it comes with six feet of screening which you will cut to fit your window height.
Original Weighted Model
If ordering the Original Weighted Model, then the Bird Screen should be long enough to extend all of the way down to the bottom of the window. It can extend below the window pane. If you wish to keep territorial birds from attacking their reflection in your window, then the closer to the bottom of the glass pane that the Bird Screen hangs, the better. Also, if using the suction cups to attach the top of the Bird Screen (see Note below), the Bird Screen could be hung a little lower to deter territorial birds (Ie. a small, opening at the top of the window will not be a danger to other birds). If territorial birds are not a problem on that particular window, then a Bird Screen that does not extend all of the way down would be acceptable.
Original Non-weighted Model
If ordering the Original Non-weighted Model, then the Bird Screen should be long
enough to extend all of the way down to the bottom of the window, but
not past the glass area, as the bottom of the Bird Screen attaches
with suction cups to the window pane. If you wish to keep territorial
birds from attacking their reflection in your window, then the closer
to the bottom of the glass pane that the Bird Screen hangs, the better.
Also, if using the suction cups to attach the top of the Bird Screen (see Note below),
the Bird Screen could be hung a little lower to deter territorial birds
(Ie. a small, opening at the top of the window will not be a danger to
other birds). If territorial birds are not a problem on that particular
window, then a Bird Screen that does not extend all of the way down would
be acceptable.
NOTE: If
you are planning to use the suction-cup brackets instead of the screw
hooks to attach the top of the Bird Screen, subtract 3 inches from the
length to determine the proper size and select the length that is closest
to that measurement without going over.
